| The World of Alberto Ginastera The Argentinean composer whose music is filled with melancholy and passion "If you listen to his music once, it will never leave your heart!" Every Ginastera fan says so. My life changed when I met an Argentinean pianist, Professor E. Delgard who introduced me to the world of Ginastera. I was immediately captured by Ginastera, and I have been playing his music for the past 10 years. Last year, I organized "All Ginastera Program Concert" to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his passing. By facing all of his works directly and playing them through, I was again convinced of his phenomenal talent. To summarize the attractiveness of his music, I could say, "The melancholic melody of Argentinean folk music and passionate chords and rhythm." However what really captures you must be the profound message that flows in all of his works. "The music that only talks to the human intellects can never reach the human hearts. We shall never forget human emotions for they are forever unchangeable." These are his words, and we can hear this message loudly and lively in his music. To us all who are living in the society with no clear direction for tomorrow, his music works as a fine medicine that "clears our mind" by "releasing our worrying heart" and "giving us hope for tomorrow." As a composer in the 20th century, Ginastera employed unprecedented, avant-garde techniques right and left, and created numerous music pieces that were impossible to play with general techniques. Just like his own words, "Do not create a wall by yourself," his works are filled with passages that "freely" keep "challenging" you. They are truly "thrilling." I feel as if Ginastera's spirit is guiding me to international competitions and is making sure that I am able to continue playing in concerts. Because of his invisible guidance, I became to make sure never to forget the player's spirit of "play every note with your soul" every time I play a music to stay close to the music I am playing. By doing so, I believe that even my life has flourished and now I an able to stay close to "people's heart." |
